Team Leadership Feedback

Feedback from regional Banking Managers who completed our 1 day Team Leadership Training.

I feel that the most important and different thing about me, is that I now find it necessary to check with others and take their pulse after sharing information or handing out a new challenge.  I no longer assume that I know how each member feels. I simply ask and they tell me. We are much more honest with each other, and this has allowed us to be a closer team.

I have asked my direct reports to step into the DK, DK and to take more risks. This has resulted in improved outside sales and a renewed feeling of success for the individual managers.

Personally, I became more "limbic" and use the pulse check to involve my team more frequently.

Our meetings are now centered around the rules in place (i.e., meeting in a circle, one person speaking at a time, no zingers, being all inclusive, etc.) and they are far more productive as a result.

A member of my team was confrontational and inappropriate (to me) in a group setting.  Instead of letting it go, I took the opportunity to call him on the phone the next day.  I expressed how hurt I was that he expressed himself in this manner and asked that, in the future, if he had an "issue" with me that we talk privately. We had a terrific conversation and came to a place of mutual understanding.

After the offsite, I had the pleasure of moderating the "Retail Collaboration Team" conference call. The feedback on the offsite was exceptionally positive. The much valued communication between S&S and the branch network has changed measurably.

We have begun sharing and discussing department agendas with each other which is a great way of gaining a better understanding of what our business partners are doing.

More frequent team and individual pulse checks. When I said I wanted to be coached by my Direct Reports I received some valuable feedback.

I feel more empowered to take more risk in putting my point of view out there for feedback (with good results).

There was so much about this off-side that I enjoyed.
- temperature checks is a technique that is so simple in structure and yet so effective and necessary with my people.  I LOVE THIS !!!!
- recognizing that other peoples opinions and ideas are key has also been enlightening to me.  I find myself doing far less talking with my direct reports and far more encouraging to learn from them.
- use of the limbic technique speaks for itself.  I find myself listening to that voice inside me much more now than ever before.

I took my managers and business partners to lunch.  Key for me was how much more intently I found myself listening to everyone.  Essentially, rather than controlling the conversation I became a part of the conversation and so much more aware of what they were discussing and asking about.

I would’ve never asked the question "How are you doing?" and I'm now finding this to be one of the most powerful questions to ask.  It takes us from a mundane, business-like, professional environment and creates a much more personalized interaction between us.

I never realized before what great humor exists with some of my people.  By allowing this [5 year-old] to enter a meeting it really gives a nice balance. People seem to enjoy themselves more......I know I am.

Most significantly our Senior VP’s are now sharing their agenda from the Executive meetings. This opens up the lines of communication and we all know what the priorities are.
